The company Segotec, based in Vernouillet\u00a0(78), mainly provides maintenance services in\u00a0the tertiary sector.\u00a0As it is responsible for the daily surveillance of\u00a0a data centre for one of the main internet service\u00a0providers in France, Segotec cannot afford\u00a0to make mistakes in its operations. The site is\u00a0visited every day to check the ongoing maintenance\u00a0operations.<\/p>\n

Created before the internet boom, this data\u00a0centre is located in the Paris region and hosts\u00a0storage systems and telecommunications\u00a0equipment. \u201cIt\u2019s one of the operator\u2019s nerve\u00a0centres, where the most important challenges\u00a0are managing air conditioning and electrical\u00a0consumption\u201d explains Mr Vincent, the Works\u00a0Manager at Segotec.<\/p>\n

On the site, there are no fewer than 50 direct\u00a0expansion air handling units which regulate the\u00a0temperature of the data rooms specifically.\u00a0Other technical installations and offices are also\u00a0cooled through different means (Rooftop, VRV,\u00a0etc.).\u00a0During maintenance, parts have been successively\u00a0replaced, but the refrigeration circuits\u00a0have started to deteriorate. This has been evidencedby the presence of acidity in certain\u00a0installations which is not caused by damage to\u00a0the compressor. An audit was therefore performed
\nby Segotec at the customer\u2019s request and a programme of rejuvenation and renovation of the refrigeration circuits set out, in view of the importance of these systems. \u201cMaking these installations more sustainable by reducing cumbersome maintenance procedures in the future was the challenge we were looking to meet\u201d, says Mr Vincent.<\/p>\n

Approach to renovating the circuits<\/strong><\/p>\n

10 refrigeration circuits were to be renovated.\u00a0As the units are duplicated, the air-conditioned\u00a0area was not jeopardised. At most two circuits\u00a0could be shut down at the same time, provided\u00a0they were not too close together and the area\u00a0did not overheat.\u00a0In order to comply with European regulations\u00a0on fluorinated greenhouse gas-based solvents,\u00a0Climalife developed and formulated a new\u00a0product, Nettogaz GC+<\/a>, and asked Segotec if\u00a0it could be tested on site.<\/p>\n

Testing and use of Nettogaz GC+<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 30 March, one of the two circuits in the air\u00a0handling unit was shut down. After draining the\u00a0circuit and recovering the refrigerant R-407C,\u00a0the refrigerated circuit was divided into three\u00a0parts, the evaporator, the condenser and the\u00a0connection pipes. Nettogaz GC+<\/a>\u00a0was tested on the 50 kW STULZ\u00a0evaporator, in accordance with the procedure\u00a0supplied by Climalife. The GC+ circulation was\u00a0activated by pulsations obtained by quickly\u00a0alternating\u00a0opening and shutting the valve of\u00a0the cylinder so as to create a \u201cwater hammer\u201d\u00a0effect on the fluid.\u00a0Very quickly, thanks to the clear flexible PVC\u00a0tube which joins the evaporator to the\u00a0GC+<\/a> recovery barrel, the flow of GC+<\/a>\u00a0could be observed,\u00a0first black then more yellowish.\u00a0The oxide deposits could be seen clearly with\u00a0the naked eye on the tube wall. The Nettogaz\u00a0was circulated until it flowed out of the circuit\u00a0clear. The cleaning took around 30 minutes and\u00a0produced good results.<\/p>\n

High-performance efficiency<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Segotec technicians were surprised but\u00a0completely satisfied with the results. \u201cIt is clearly\u00a0more effective and faster than the previous\u00a0product or other products on the market\u201d one\u00a0of them said. This result is due to its linear\u00a0cleaning capacity and its Kauri Butanol value of\u00a0over 80, which proves its high performance in\u00a0eliminating impurities from circuits. \u00a0\u201cMoreover, the new GC+<\/a>\u00a0packaging in this\u00a0Friocatch\u00a0bottle, equipped with a nitrogen connector,\u00a0is better suited to our requirements\u201d\u00a0said a technician. Nettogaz GC+<\/a> conforms to the field expectations\u00a0and Segotec is proud to have been one\u00a0of the first users.<\/p>\n
