On 5, 6 and 7 June, ten monohull boats left the Vendée Globale pontoon to sail the waters of the Atlantic Ocean en route to the picturesque island of Ile d’Yeu.
Organised by Climalife and with the participation of our loyal sponsors Assurfroid, Honeywell, HRS, SNEFCCA and the magazines Clim’ Pratique and RPF, our sailors spent three days discovering the pleasures of cruising to the rhythm of the wind.
This 2009 event is one to remember for professionals in the cooling and air conditioning world: the first navigation over 30,000 miles.
The first Honeywell regatta departed from Sables d’Olonne in good weather conditions giving the crews the chance to get to grips with their boats and give everything they had to get into the rankings.
The subsequent regattas (HRS and Climalife) were more of a challenge and required more focus, particularly on Sunday morning when the competitors came up against force 6 winds and troughs two or three metres high.
A welcome sunny spell late on Saturday afternoon gave everyone the opportunity to escape the "Au Vert à Terre regatta" (Assurfroid) with a bike ride along the coastline of Ile d’Yeu, particularly the legendary Port de la Meule, a 20 km ride combining cultural issues and the search for markers. The evening continued merrily at the Citadel with entertainment from modern-day folk duo Bob et Mimosa.
"Discovering the sea from the land" is the motto of this challenge where the friendly atmosphere pushes aside memories of a sea that is at times too choppy for the stomachs of some of our valiant seamen.
Climalife would like to thank all of our partners who help us to bring this event to life and we will see you next year for a new sporting adventure
