Deep induction is an innovative method for brazing different materials. It is an effective alternative to traditional flame brazing, generating heat electromagnetically, directly at the core of the metals. Thanks to its versatility and efficiency, this technology opens up numerous application possibilities, particularly for the manufacture of refrigeration components. It enables precise brazing joints to be created for copper-to-copper or copper-to-brass assemblies, whether for joining complex components or for leak-tight assemblies on plate heat exchangers, for example.
From imports to ‘Made in Germany’ innovation
When he founded his company, Thomas Vauderwange was importing deep induction equipment from northern Europe. Ironically for this engineer specialising in refrigeration, breakdowns in the imported machines were mainly caused by leaks in the refrigeration circuit at the evaporator connections, which were difficult to solder. In 2019, he took a significant step by deciding to assemble deep induction machines himself at his premises in Offenburg-Elgersweier.

This led to the creation of the V range, comprising eight models with induction power ranging from 8 to 18 kW. Of these, four models (V3, V4, V6 and V7) are fitted with a refrigeration system using the refrigerant R-455A. These refrigeration units, designed and manufactured by VauQuadrat, comprise a Tecumseh compressor, a Kelvion evaporator and a LUVE condenser, delivering a cooling capacity of 6 kW. The evaporation temperature ranges from -5°C to 0°C, and the condensation temperature is +45°C.
The choice of an A2L refrigerant did not pose any obstacles to their implementation. The manufacturer followed the recommendations of standards EN 14276 and EN 378. The V series is therefore fitted with a comprehensive range of safety features: active flow monitoring, overheating protection, a residual current device, overcurrent protection, surge protection, high- and low-pressure switches for the refrigeration circuit, as well as a motor protection circuit breaker. The models are available with either 6-metre or 10-metre hoses for optimum use.
Choosing R-455A: a successful transition to a sustainable refrigerant
“The machines we imported were originally fitted with an R-404A refrigeration system. When we took over production, I wanted to opt for a sustainable refrigerant that complied with the F-Gas III regulations. It was at the Chillventa trade fair, on the Climalife stand, that I discovered R-455A. Its low GWP (146*) and ease of implementation immediately won me over. The only adjustment required was to account for the temperature drift, a detail that didn’t turn out to be a problem.”
Feedback

The ‘Made in Germany’ series has fully achieved its objectives: in seven years, no leaks have been detected in the R-455A circuit’s welds, a result directly linked to the exceptional quality of the deep induction brazing. As proof of this excellence, VauQuadrat was honoured in 2022 with the TOP100 award, which recognises Germany’s most innovative SMEs.
This recognised technology is becoming increasingly widespread in the refrigeration sector, serving as a key driver in helping the refrigeration industry to decarbonise.
