This is not Baudry Froid’s first experience with this ultra-low GWP refrigerant. Based in Saint Pierre d’Oléron, on a 174 km² tourist island in New Aquitaine, Baudry Froid is responsible for maintaining more than 400 commercial refrigeration installations for convenience stores, restaurants and local authorities. Whether it’s bakery equipment, professional kitchens, cold rooms or display cabinets, the company has chosen to switch to Solstice® L40X to replace R-452A, R-448A or R-513A in new systems.
Discovered on an initial self-service project manufactured by Tournus, and in more detail during the webinar hosted by Climalife and Emerson and organised by Rolesco, R-455A very quickly appealed to the company’s manager and his technicians because of its reduced environmental footprint and its simple, effective technology.
“When we can switch to the lowest GWP, we have no hesitation we don’t hesitate in doing so recommending R-455A, obviously taking into account the permitted charge with this type of refrigerant under standard EN 378. If we can help to protect our planet with simple actions, we don’t hesitate in doing so” stresses Jean-Noël Pouvreau, manager of Baudry Froid.
And for the technicians, implementation is simple and accessible to all, a significant advantage given the current difficulties in recruiting.
What’s more, “it’s a single refrigerant for medium and low temperature cooling, making it particularly interesting. On the first freezing chamber we built, the very dry cold we produced reminded us of R-22” adds Florent Fraigne, refrigeration technician.
Installation of a low temperature cold room for the La Gaîeté restaurant
A seaside brasserie with a panoramic terrace overlooking the port of La Cotinièr in Saint Pierre d’Oléron, this 400-seat restaurant redesigned its facilities over the winter. Baudry Froid was asked to replace the walk in freezer, working with Didier Mailharrou and Jérôme Moreau from the Rolesco Bordeaux agency. The decision was made on a Dagard walk in freezer with a capacity of 16.4 m3, a Friga Bohn 3C-A 3244C cubic evaporator fitted with a SANHUA sek 10-01 electronic expansion valve and a Copeland ZXLY-040E-TFD condensing unit with a power rating of 2.53 kW operating at -30°C / +40°C.
Implemented last March, all those involved are fully satisfied. For the Rolesco team, this positive experience with the R-455A refrigerant means they are confident and can now promote it more easily. For Baudry Froid, it confirms the selection of this solution, which was recently also tested in chilled refrigeration for the Exkal display cases in a Spar shop.
